PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM:
Resistors are normally supplied in a limited range of values. These are referred to as the E6, E12, E24 or E96 ranges and have 6, 12, 24 or 96 values per decade respectively. RVal is a program that helps you select the best pairs of values to produce a given ratio or difference, or to connect in series or parallel to produce an exact value. It also allows you to find the nearest preferred value to any given value or display a list of all the values in one decade of any range.

It is possible to restrict the program to finding the nearest or all within a certain tolerance and the result can be printed, saved or appended to a file or copied onto the clipboard. Limited on-line help is provided; operation is, I hope, largely intuitive.

The distributed program is fully functional. Without registration it displays a nag screen when run and will be disabled after 60 days (twice the licenced evaluation period). It is likely that you will be able to defeat this time limit, I just hope you will prefer to be honest.

DISTRIBUTION:
If you wish to pass this program on, please make sure it is complete. The minimum you should pass on is the following:

	RVal.exe
	ReadMe.txt (this file)
	Order.txt
	file_id.diz

Other files required to run the program (but which may already be present on the target machine) are:

	VBrun300.dll
	cmdialog.vbx

Alternatively, the preferred way to distribute RVal is by passing on the ZIP file 'rval100.zip'.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU CLAIM A FEE BEYOND ANY EXPENSES YOU HAVE INCURRED (e.g. The cost of a disc, postage, etc.). I alone can grant a licence to use the program beyond the initial 30 day trial period.

INSTALLATION:
Simply extract all the files from 'rval100.zip' into a directory of your choice. You will need a copy of VBrun300.dll either in your 'Windows/system' directory or in the RVal program directory. The former location is better as other Visual Basic V3.0 programs can then share the single copies. The same applies to cmdialog.vbx, although included in the self-extracting zip file this can be moved to your 'Windows/system' directory if preferred; just check that you are not replacing a more recent version!

UN-INSTALL:
RVal makes no changes to your system files. To remove RVal all that needs to be done is to delete the program directory and all its contents. Should you have chosen to keep VBrun300.dll and cmdialog.vbx in your 'Windows/system' directory you may choose to delete these as well, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE NOT USED BY ANYTHING ELSE.

LICENCE:
RVal is Shareware. You are granted a licence to use RVal, free of charge, for a 30 day trial period after the first time you run the program. After that time has elapsed, if you wish to continue using it, you must register your copy with me as described in 'Order.txt'. Upon registration you will be granted a non-transferable licence to use RVal for an indefinite period. You may make as many copies of the program as you wish, but you must NOT enter the licence details, provided upon registration, into more copies than you have licenses. Network installations should ensure that the number of simultaneous users does not exceed the licence count.

WARRANTY/DISCLAIMER:
I hearby warrant RVal fit for the purpose described in this file, 'file_id.diz' and 'Help/What is RVal?...' and that it will operate in accordance with the instructions given in 'Help/Using RVal...' subject to the known problems and limitations described in this file.

Should any fault be found with RVal, I will undertake to supply updated versions to those reporting the fault only if the cure for the fault lies within my power, e.g. I accept no obligation to cure a fault If the fault is the result of the particular compiler or other development component I have used.

Under all circumstances my liability shall be limited to the refund of the licence fee paid to me.

The writing of this program has been a personal activity and my employer accepts no liability or reward in connection with this program.

KNOWN PROBLEMS & LIMITATIONS:
RVal is a 16bit application written for Windows 3.x and therefore it should also run under Windows 95. However, this leads to some limitations when using RVal with Windows 95 and a network:

1) RVal is not 'NDS aware'. On some networks this can cause the program to be unable to print to a network printer. If you encounter this problem, try using a captured LPT port instead.

2) RVal only supports short file and directory names of the 8.3 format.

That is all that I have discovered (and been unable to alter) so far. If any of you discover any other problems or limitations or just have suggestions for improvements please let me know and I will do my best to cure or incorporate them as appropriate.
