Why do I need a log file? |
It is not essential to maintain a log file, however we recommend that you do.
This is simply because if your computer crashes before sending is complete then you can refer to your log file to find out the last recipient, then just modify your Recipient Selection SQL to continue where from where the system got to.

Why would I not want a log file? |
Maintaining a log file does slow sending down slightly as it has to open and close the file for each email to ensure that the data has all been written to disk.
The file may become very large, and therefore should periodically be deleted.
