SPS - Swap Print Servers for Windows 95
=======================================

1. Introduction

SPS is a tool for transferring workstations from one print queue or
server to another. By adding sps to a login script the task of
moving all users from myqueue1 to myqueue2 becomes a trivial task.

2. Changing a machine from one print server to another

SPS can be used to move a machine from one server to another. This is
accomplished by issuing the following command:

SPS \\OLDSERVER \\NEWSERVER

All instances of \\OLDSERVER will be replace with \\NEWSERVER for all
of the printer connections on the PC.

3. Changing a machine from one print queue to another

SPS can be used to move a machine from one print queue to another. This
is accomplished by issuing the following command:

SPS \\MYSERVER\OLDQUEUE \\MYSERVER\NEWQUEUE
or
SPS \\OLDSERVER\SOMEQUEUE \\NEWSERVER\NEWQUEUE

This allows queues to be migrated from one machine to another and from
one name to another. In our experience, this has been an absolute
nightmare on large networks (more than 200 nodes).

4. How do I keep SPS quiet during login scripts?

The /q option can be used to suppress all output. The only time /q is
when SPS is launched without any parameters.

5. How do I see what the printer settings are on a particular machine?

Launch SPS without any parameters.

6. I've used SPS to make my changes. Do I need to do anything else for
the change to take effect?

Currently, you must restart Windows 95 before the changes take effect.
Research is currently in progress to make the printer connection updates
take effect immediately.
