1. The first thing to do is view the file called file.fmt,in the directory where you unzipped SPWIN.ZIP, in Notepad.  The format/structure is kept separate from the actual data. A Numeric field of 8 characters is entered as N------- ( N and 7 minus signs). A record consisting of a 16 character Alpha field and  a 10 character Numeric field will be entered as A---------------N-------E The 'E' show the end of the record format. Open the file TEST.DAT and just enter numbers from the numeric keypad. In the R field press enter it will right adjust after entering some numbers. An R field  will also accept a decimal point as is required sometimes by many database programs.
2. From a Single format many  Data files can be created. The format line is followed by an optional heading line. The line can be blank press Enter once only. An N field is numeric only M  - Alpha only,B - numeric and blanks.
3. F2 to F10 are memory keys which remember upto 32 characters each. The right arrow will duplicate one character at a time from previous record.
4. If you press Alt-F1 you can change the field type at any time during a job. Many instructions are given in the beginning of the File.Fmt. The Data file(.dat ext) can also be opened in any Text Editor for quick corrections and searching. CAUTION : Please make sure that no record length is altered.
5. The Home Key sends the cursor  to the first field ,  END sends it to the last field. The UP arrow goes to previous record and the down arrow to the next record.
6. Ctrl-HOME goes to the first record Ctrl-END goes to the last record.
7. During verification if an error is encountered pressing Backspace will allow the entire field to be corrected it can also be called the field corect key.
8. Press F1 during any time to get context sensitive help. Especially during actual data entry and verification . This lists the functions of keys .
9. NOTE: If you have been using the DOS based SPEEDATA, F12 is used now for duplication and F11 for record advance. Previously the "7" key was used for duplication and  "]" for record advance. To put Duplicate switch on or off you can use ctrl-D or right click the DUP OFF/ON image in the status bar.
10. The Enter / Return key is used for Right adjust and skip. Ctrl-N is used for inserting records. Ctrl-Y is used for deleting records.
11. During Verification Backspace key functions as the Field Correct key. That is if there is more than on error you can correct the entire field.
12. If you press backslash during verification then the entire record is made visible facilitating visual verifcation.
