Mail Window - Tab1

"Mail Window" - After A "Check Mail" Or "Delete Mail" Process This Window Will List All Of Your eMail Items For Each Of Your Configured Usernames, According To Your Configured Run Settings. On Each Row In The Mail Window The Columns Show:
1. "Display Name" - Your Display Name
2. "Username" - Your Username
3. "From" - The Senders Display Name And Arrow-Bracketed eMail Address
4. "Subject" - The Subject Field Of The eMail Message
5. "Date Sent" - The Date And Time When The eMail Was Sent, Formatted According To Your Settings Selection (On Run Settings P. 2).
6. "Server" - (Not Visible In The Illustration Above) - The Server Name For Your Username
7. "Port" - (Not Visible In The Illustration Above) - The Port Number For Your Server

"Timed Re-Check Box" - Double-Click To Turn "Timed Re-Check For Mail" "On" Or "Off". You Can Also Select On The Run Settings Tab2 To Automatically Turn Timed Re-Check" "On" The First Time You Check For Mail. .Dimmed And Empty Indicates That Timed Re-Check For Mail Is Turned "Off" . . When Timed Re-Check Is "On" This Box Will Show The Number Of Minutes Until The Next Automatic Re-Check For Mail.

"Check Mail" Button - Connects To The POP3 Server And Checks For Mail For Your Configured Usernames (eMail Addresses), According To Your Configured Run Settings. . When The Process Is Complete, Your eMail Items Will Be Listed In The Mail Window, And The Status Bar Will Show The Date And Time And A "Check Complete ..." Message. . The Messages Box Will Show A Log Of App And Server Messages.. . Note: POP3 Servers Can Pause Temporarily During The Process, And Then Resume And Complete The Task. . Your "Server Connection Time-Out Setting" (Default 180 Seconds) Will Allow This Pause.
Note: On The Run Settings Tab2, You Can, Also, Set Pop3check To Automatically Check For Mail When It Opens (According To Your Configured Run Settings).

"Seen" Button - Resets "New" Mail Items In The Mail Window As "Seen" So That The Next Time You Check Mail, The Current Mail Items Will Not Be Considered "New" Mail. (Also, Removes The Heavy Red Marks From The Icons Of "New" Mail Items In The Mail Window). . This Has No Effect On The Status Of Mail Items On The Server Or In Other Mail Applications, And Even Pop3check Will Not Recognize Them As "Seen" If You Close Pop3check, And Then Re-Open Pop3check And Check For Mail With The Items Still On The Server.

"Cancel" Button - Only Visible When A "Check Mail" Or "Delete Mail" Process Is Ongoing. . Click To Shut Down The Ongoing Process.

"Delete Mail" Button - Connects To The POP3 Server And Permanently Deletes From The POP3 Server The Mail Items Which You Have Selected By Checking The Check Boxes For The Items In The Mail Window (Delete Functions Must Be Enabled On The Run Settings Tab, To Enabled This Button And To Make The Check Boxes Visible). . When A Delete Process Is Complete, The Status Bar Will Show The Date And Time And A "Delete Complete ..." Message. . The Messages Box Will Show A Log Of App And Server Messages..

"Menu" Button - Displays A Pop-Up Menu With The Following Items:

"Log" Button - Shows/Hides The Messages Box (Not Visible In Illustrations), Which Shows A Log Of App And Server Messages Generated During A "Check Mail" Or A :Delete Mail" Process. . Right-Click The "Log" Button To Alter The Width Of The Messages Box To Or From Full-Window Or Half-Window Wide.

Right-Click Menu - When Delete Functions Are Enabled And The Mail Window Contains A Mail List This Right-Click Menu Is Accessible, With Menu Items:

You Can Choose A Combination Of Settings, All Of Which Will Be Saved, Which Allow You To Highly Automate And Control The Process Of Checking The POP3 Server For Mail. . .This Takes A Lot Of The "Chore" Out Of Checking Your eMail, If You Have Several eMail Addresses, And/Or If You Want To Monitor Repeatedly For Mail. . . It Allows You to Monitor A Single Address Or Many Addresses, Using A Lightweight, Usually Disconnected, Invisible (If You Choose) On The Tray Application. . . As You Configure It To Run.

Check Mail Only For Usernames With Checked Boxes - If This Setting Is Checked, Only The Usernames In The Configure Usernames Window With Their Check Box Checked Will Be Checked For Mail In The Check Mail Process.

Automatically Check Mail When Window Opens - If This Setting Is Checked, Pop3check Will Automatically Check For Mail When It Opens (According To Your Configured Run Settings).

Play Sound When Mail Is Found On Server - If This Setting Is Checked, When A Check Mail Process Completes, If Mail Was Found On The Pop3Server, A System "Exclamation" Sound Will Be Played.. . . This Sound Is Configurable In Windows Control Panel.

Play As Continuous Alarm - If This Sound Setting Is Also Checked, The Sound Will Repeat Every Five Seconds. . To Turn "Off" The Alarm When It Is Sounding, Click The "Alarm Off" Label In The Upper Right Corner Of The Window (Not Shown In The Illustration Above).

How Often To Re-Check For Mail (Minutes) - Use The Arrow Buttons To Set How Often To Re-Check For Mail, In Minutes, When Timed Re-Check For Mail Is Turned "On" (See "Timed Re-Check Box" Topic, Above, And The Next Setting, Below...).

Idle If Offline - If This Setting Is Checked, And If Have The Timed Re-Check For Mail Timer Running, And If The Timer Has Counted Down To Zero, And It Is Time For A Re-Check To Occur, And If Your Computer Is Not Connected To The Internet, Pop3check Will Wait (Idle) Until The Next Time You Connect To The Internet To Re-Check For Mail, Instead Of Prompting You To Connect, Or Showing Messages. . . It Runs When It Can, Otherwise It Sits Idle, With A Zero Count. . If You Want To Force A Connection And Check For Mail, Click The "CheckMail" Button, Or Un-Check The "Idle If Offline" Check Box.

Auto-Start Timer When Mail Is Checked - If This Setting Is Checked, When Any Check Mail Process Completes, Timed Re-Check For Mail Will Be Turned "On" (This Includes A Check Mail Process Which Begins By Clicking The "Check Mail" Button, Or By An "Automatically Check For Mail When Window Opens" Setting)

Enable Functions To Delete Messages On POP3 Server - - If This Setting Is Checked, The "Delete" Button Will Be Enabled After A "Check Mail" Process Completes And Mail Items Are Present In The Mail Window. . Also, Each Mail Item In The Window Will Be Preceeded By A Check Box Instead Of An Icon.

"Defaults" Button - Will Reset All Of The Settings On This Settings Page, Only, To Their Original Installation Values.

Close With Icon On The Tray (Notification Area) - If This Setting Is Checked, When You Open Pop3check, A Pop3check "Letter" Icon Will Appear On The Windows TaskBar Tray (Notification Area), And When You Click The Corner Close Button On Its Window To Close Pop3check, Instead Of Shutting Down And Unloading, Pop3check Will Continue To Run Invisible. . .You Can, Also, Left-Click The Icon On The Tray To Make Pop3check Invisible. . You Can Make It Visible Again By Left-Clicking The Tray Icon, Again, Or By Right-Clicking The Tray Icon And Then When The Pop-Up Menu Appears, Click "Open". . .Or To Completely Shut-Down And Unload Pop3check Click "Close" On The Pop-Up Menu.

Date-Time - Use The Selector To Select The Date-Time Forrmat You Want To Be Used In The "Date Sent" Column Of eMail Items Displayed In The Mail Window. The Choices Are:

Pop3check Password - You Can Enter A Password Which Will Be Required To Open Pop3check. This Is A Minimum Security System. . Try Not To Forget Your Password, But If You Do Forget Your Password, (Read This Very Carefully In Every Detail) You Can Locate And Delete The pop3check.ini Settings File. (-DO-NOT-DELETE- The Original pop3check.ini Located In The Pop3check Install Directory Where The Pop3check.exe file Is Located, This Is The .ini File That Will Allow You To Get Back-Up Afterward). . The One To Delete Will Typically Be Located:
(In Windows XP) In C:\Documents And Settings\(YourOriginalUsername)\Application Data\Pop3check
(In Windows 9x) C:\Windows\Profiles\(YourOriginalUsername)\Application Data\Pop3check
Be Careful... There Are Two .ini Files In This Directory. . Delete The pop3check.ini File, Only. The Other One Contains Your eMail Usernames - Passwords - Server Addresses - Port Numbers.
Note: You Will Lose All Of Your Run Settings, But You Will Not Lose Your Configured Usernames. . .If You Have Registered Pop3check (Stand-Alone Without A Registered Copy Of WeatherBrowser2) You Will Have To Put Your Register Key Text File In The Pop3check.exe File's Directory, To Re-Register Pop3check.
Also Note: Someone Else Who Has Physical Access To Your Computer, Can Move Your Settings .ini File To Get Around Your Password, Run Your Pop3check, Then Replace Your Settings .ini File And You Would Not Know That This Had Been Done.

Server Connection Time-Out (Seconds) - Use The Arrow Buttons To Set The Server Connection Time-Out. When A "Check Mail" Or "Delete Mail" Process Is In Progress, If Data Stops To And From The Server For This Many Seconds, Pop3check Will Automatically Cancel The Process And Close The Server Connection.

Disable Tool Tips - If This Setting Is Checked, Pop3check Will Not Display Little Pop-Up, Tool Tip Messages When Your Mouse Pointer Is Hovering Over Buttons, And Boxes.

"Default" Button - Will Reset All Of The Settings On This Settings Page, Only, To Their Original Installation Values. Except, If You Are Using A "Pop3check Password", Then, Your Password Will Not Be Affected.

For Advanced Users

Use "RETR" Instead Of Default "TOP" - When Executing A "Check Mail" Or "Delete Mail" Process, Pop3check, By Default, Sends A Command Named "TOP" To The POP3 Server To Retreive Just The Header Information (The Top) From Your eMail Messages Stored On The Server. This Is All That Pop3Check Needs To Complete Its Task. . .However, POP3 Servers Are Not Required To Support The "TOP" Command, Although Most Of Them Do. . They Are Required To Support The "RETR" Command, Which Retreives The Entire Message, And Pop3check Can Use This Message.
You Would Only Need To Try Using This Setting If Pop3check Repeatedly Failed To Receive Your eMails Information, And If The Following Message Is In Pop3check's Messages Box ... "Error Using -TOP- Command".

Use "APOP" Instead Of Default "USER\PASS" - APOP Is A More Secure Logon Method Which Does Not Use Passwords. It Is An Option, Which Can Be Used Be Used By POP3 Servers, Although It Usually Is Not. . If Your eMail Service, Specifically, Instructs You To Use APOP Logon And Provides You With A Method To Establish A "Shared Secret" (See Next Setting), Then, And Only Then, Can You Use This Setting Successfully. . .Further, All Of Your eMail Addresses Being Checked For Mail Must Use The APOP Logon And The Same "Shared Secret" (This Is A Pop3check Limitation. . Since APOP Logon Is Seldom Available, Pop3check Only Minimally Supports Its Use. . Pop3check, Also, Requires That You Enter A Password When You Configure Usernames, Even Though, The Password Will Not Be Used With APOP Logons).

APOP Shared Secret (max. 248 bytes) - (See Above Setting) - Type Or Copy And Paste Your "Shared Secret" Into The Text Box And Press The -Enter- Key To Store It.

Very Similar To Adding Usernames To Outlook Express, Before You Can Use Pop3check To Check Your Mail, You Must Enter Your eMail Accounts Information For Each Of Your eMail Usernames (Addresses) And Add Them To The Usernames List. Pop3Check Will Store This Information In A Small Database File (pop3user.ini) With The Passwords Encrypted. . .Your eMail Accounts Must Have POP3 Access (If You Are Using Outlook Express, They Probably Do)

"Add" Button - Adds The Information Entered In The Display Name, Username, Password, Server Name, Port Text Boxes To The Usernames List And To Pop3check's pop3user.ini File.. . Enter All Of The Information For The Username In The 5 Text Boxes Then Click The "Add" Button.

"Delete" Button - Permanently Deletes The Username(s) Whose Rows Are Mouse Selected And Highlited On The Usernames List From The Usernames List And From The Pop3check's pop3user.ini File.

(Right-Click Menu) - If You Have A Usernames List, You Can Right-Click An Item And A Small Pop-Up Menu Will Appear With The Following Selections: "Move Up" - "Move Down" - "Move To Top" - "Move To Bottom" Each Of These Will Move The Item Selected On The List. (Selected Is Mouse Clicked And Highlighted).
"Delete Selected User (Disregards CheckBox)" - Permanently Deletes The Username(s) Whose Rows Are Mouse Selected And Highlited From The Usernames List And From The Pop3check's pop3user.ini File.

Usernames Window

The Usernames Window Has Four Columns Of Visible Items For Each Of Your eMail Usernames (eMail Address Accounts). The Password Is Stored Invisibly, Encrypted.
The Check Box Before Each Item On The List Can Be Used When You Choose The "Run Setting" - "Check Mail Only For Usernames With Checked Boxes" (See Run Settings P. 1, Above)

"Display Name" - This Can Be Anything You Like. .It Is Purely For Display Purposes In Pop3check. In Mail Apps, Like Outlook Express, This Name Would Be Sent With Your Outgoing eMails As Part Of The "From" Information.

Very Important

The Next Four Items Must Be Entered Perfectly In Order For Pop3check To Be Able To Logon To The POP3 Server And Check For Mail. . So, Enter Them Very Carefully. . You Only Have To Do This One Time. . If You Don't Know All Of The Information, You Can Get The Information From Your eMail Service Provider, If You Have POP3 Server Access.
Note: This Is The Same Information You Have To Enter To Setup An eMail Address In Windows Outlook Express. If You Are Using Outlook Express, You Can Reference The Information .. On The Outlook Express Menu, "Tools" >> "Accounts" Window >> "Properties" Button > "Servers" Tab And "Advanced" Tab. (The Password Will Not Be Visible, However).

"Username" - This Is Typically The First Part Of Your eMail Address, The Part Before The "@" Sign. . It Is, Usually, Also, Your eMail Service Account Username.

"Password" - Every eMail Account Has Its Own Password Established When You Opened Your eMail Account. After You Enter The New Information For A Username, The Password Will Be Stored Encrypted By Pop3check, And Will Not Be Visible On The Surface, Again.

"Server Name" - This Is The Address Of Your Incoming Mail Server (POP3). . You Can Get It From Your eMail Service Provider. In The Examples Shown In The Illustration Above It Is mail.alltel.net, But It Could Also Be Entered In Dotted Decimal Form, For Example, 166.72.123.88

"Port No." - This Is Usually Port Number, "110" Which Is A POP3 Protocol Standard, But It Could Be Different If Your eMail Service Provider Uses A Different Port Number.

Notes:

1. Uninstall -Pop3check Uses Microsoft's Install And Uninstall System. When Pop3check Is Uninstalled Using Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, It Will Only Remove The Directories And Files Which Were Installed During The Original Installation Process. For A Complete Uninstall, After You Use Control Panel Uninstall, You May Safely Delete Any Of The Following Which Control Panel Will Not Remove:
........a. Pop3check Desktop Icon - Right Click It, And Then On The Pop-Up Menu Click "Delete".
........b. (In Windows XP) - In C:\Documents And Settings\(Each Username)\Application Data.... You Can Delete Each User's Pop3check Subdirectory And All Of Its Subdirectories And Files.
........c. (In Windows 98) - In C:\Windows\Profiles\(Each Username)\Application Data .... You Can Delete Each User's Pop3check Subdirectory And All Of Its Subdirectories And Files.
........d. If You Registered Pop3check And Left The Register Key Text File In The Application's Install Directory, Typically, C:\Program Files\Pop3check . . Control Panel Will Not Remove This Pop3check Subdirectory. . You Can Delete The Pop3check Subdirectory And All Of Its Subdirectories And Files.
........e. IMPORTANT: If, During The Control Panel Uninstall Process, You Are Prompted With Message Box Questions Regarding The Removal Of "Shared" Files. . Do Not Remove Them. . Several Of The Files In Question Are Windows Component Files And Should Not Be Removed. . When You Originally Installed Pop3check These Files May Have Been Upgraded To Newer Versions.
